During the 1950s and 1960s Shikō designed more than forty woodblock prints of flowers and (or) birds. He worked rapidly using short chisel strokes to carve angularly-shaped birds and plants and then usually printed them using a single color – black. Consequently, recognizing the species he included in his pictures is often a challenge. Ten examples of Shiko’s semi-abstract art are included in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
